Online submissions are always open. Our next print issue production will begin in December 2023. You can keep up to date with print announcements by following us on Instagram and the BRICKS Learner Platform Instagram.
Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we cannot respond to each one individually. If you’ve not received a response within 7-days of sending, please presume your submission or pitch is unsuccessful.
Types of pitches we like to see
- BRICKS publishes first-person essays and articles surrounding wellness, mental health, LGBTQ+ issues, identity, race, self-care, relationships, lifestyle, socio-politics, sustainability and alternative career choices.
- We also publish articles, interviews and think-pieces on Fashion, Beauty, Art, Politics, Music, Arts and Culture.
- BRICKS also accept fashion editorials (keep reading for guidelines).
- All works must be unpublished and unique to you.
How to pitch articles, interviews and think pieces
- Please outline the title of your pitch/work in the subject line of your email.
- Explain your idea using no more than 200 words
- Outline the format you will use. Is it a Q&A? A think piece? Is it a list? Let us know!
- Remember to include your word count.
- Suggest potential headlines – this will help strengthen the angle of your pitch.
- Think of imagery. Are these coming from the PR or artist? Do we need to organise a shoot?
- Make sure to send examples of previous writing, we love to read! This also helps us understand whether your tone of voice will suit our platform.
- Send along your draft (if you have one) in a Google Doc or a Word file.
How to submit fashion editorials
- If you’re planning a shoot, please pitch your idea to us using no more than 250 words.
- Always include full team names (with links) and a list of brands you’re hoping to pull from.
- If accepted we can provide a Pull Letter for the stylist.
- Please outline the title of your pitch/work in the subject line of your email.
- If you’ve already completed the shoot, please attach your work either by a Dropbox link or PDF.
- Attach your wardrobe credits in relation to each image.
- Make sure you work with a stylist that can provide you with 8-12 looks.
Other useful tips
- First things first, make sure we haven’t already published something similar by searching pieces in our online archive.
- Do not send us introductions to your work without bringing any ideas forward (unless we put out an open call for new creatives).
- Consider whether or not your pitch is too time-sensitive, especially if it’s a news-related piece.
- Do not DM editors or contributing writers on Instagram for updates on your submission, it’s invasive.
- Do not send us your entire pitch via the BRICKS Instagram either, we don’t read our DMs!
- Remember, a Pull Letter doesn’t guarantee your editorial will be published. We cannot confirm a shoot will be published until we receive the final images for consideration.
- If we accept your pitch, keep all correspondence in one, neat, email chain – this helps to ensure your pitch/email doesn’t get lost in translation.
- Provide as much information as possible – don’t assume we know what you’re talking about. Add hyperlinks, social accounts, news sources etc. when you’re discussing people, topical conversations or campaigns.
- Editors can’t download files immediately. WeTransfer files can often expire before we get a chance to see them and we don’t have time to chase for new links!
- Don’t just shoot one designer, as this is considered an advertorial. Occasionally, we do publish work featuring one designer if they’re an emerging, student or recent graduate.
