Vintage Threads and Brixton Brewery are taking their South London collaboration to Fashion Week

Fashion month is officially upon us, and Brixton Brewery is continuing its collaboration with Vintage Threads, bringing the vintage seller’s latest project to Soho for London Fashion Week. On Thursday 17th September, Vintage Threads will launch The LFW Archive Collective at its Berwick Street store, with Brixton Brewery supporting the opening night with complimentary beers and DJs curated by Voices Radio. The pop-up will then run from 18th–20th September, with an exclusive DJ set in Vintage Threads’ Soho store on Saturday 19th, from 1pm til 4pm.

The collaboration follows a successful takeover at Brixton Brewery earlier this month, where the taproom was transformed into a two-day vintage sale featuring hand-selected pieces from Stone Island, Versace and Cavalli, alongside Y2K clothing, jewellery, sunglasses and bags.

To mark the Brixton takeover, the brewery also created a limited-edition can, Hop Couture, sold exclusively at the event. Pronounced “Op Couture, darling!”, the name plays on the idea that hops give beer its individual flavour and personality, much like style and taste do for your favourite fashionista. There’s also a deliberate contradiction at play: the exclusivity associated with high fashion versus the egalitarian nature of beer as something for everyone.

For Brixton Brewery, the connection between vintage fashion and its home in South London feels natural. “Brixton is renowned for its great street style. Everyday life is a catwalk here!” Sophie from Brixton Brewery tells BRICKS. “London Fashion Week is a great opportunity to bring a renowned vintage brand to Brixton.”

Brixton has been a famously welcoming home for migrants and outsiders, where music, arts, cultures and food mix to create a local area like no other.

For Vintage Threads, meanwhile, the partnership’s appeal lies in creating physical spaces to celebrate the joy of fashion. The thrill of vintage has never really been about knowing what you’ll find. “It’s always about the chase to find that one perfect item, that fits you perfectly and completely changes your mood when you wear it,” Charlie from Vintage Threads says. It’s an experience that just can’t be replicated online, where the elation of finding a hidden gem after a rummage is replaced by a simple search bar.

That physical experience has become increasingly important to Vintage Threads since it moved away from online retail in 2022. “We stepped back to focus on creating stores that had a community feel and brought real nostalgia while you were shopping.” Its stores are intended to be valuable third spaces where shoppers can come for bargains but stay to spend time with friends, with arcade machines, vinyl, books, music and live events sitting alongside the clothes. “Shopping vintage is like nothing else,” they say. “You’re getting transported back to certain stages of your life where the clothes tell that story.”

It’s a feeling that also feeds into the relationship between vintage and the future of fashion. “The pieces we’re selling tell the story of where some of the most well-known designers have come from. It’s inspiring for the new generation of designers coming through who can take references from them.”

Now, that conversation is moving from Brixton to Soho. The LFW Archive Collective will bring Vintage Threads’ archive to Berwick Street throughout the weekend, with Brixton Brewery joining the launch night alongside DJs curated by Voices Radio. It’s another meeting point between fashion, music, beer and the communities that surround them, just in time for London Fashion Week.
