It was making me squirm, cutting her nails. I suddenly cut one too short and hurt her. She quickly pulled away like reacting to a snake that had suddenly bitten – the hiss of the nail clippers soothing in the intimacy they were bringing between us, now suddenly pounced and jammed their sharp jaw down, giving us a dose of poisonous reality.
