What To Expect From 080 Barcelona Fashion’s 33rd Edition

Starting today, 080 Barcelona Fashion unveils another intriguing line-up, fusing both design newcomers and established leaders across a jam-packed four-day schedule.

Sitting outside the four major fashion weeks, 080 Barcelona Fashion exudes an equally captivating magnetism rivalling the major counterparts that dominate the industry’s calendar. Now in its 33rd edition, the event continues to platform homegrown fashion designers pushing for positive change – those that put sustainability, circularity and diversity hand in hand with meticulous craftsmanship – and this season is no exception.

Kickstarting the line-up is heritage label Escorpion, whose knitwear, Jacquards, and pixelated flower prints play upon our love stories with nature, followed by SIMORRA who ensures age is never a discriminating factor,  nodding to past techniques and combining them with new technologies to create its thoughtful ready-to-wear pieces. Other designers billed include multiple award-winning designer Txell Miras, emerging design duo María Undo and Daniel De Villanueva’s label AVEC AMOUR and Habey Club, awarded the 2023 Vogue Fashion Fund by Vogue Spain and dressed Rosalía during her European tour.

This season, in addition to showcasing 24 labels across its program, there’s a welcome extension: a diverse digital exhibition entitled  “080 Aesthetics,” merging globally acclaimed fashion adjacent artists across music and technology. The display will bring those together with a direct call to arms, those willing to patch up fashion’s renowned fickleness with a much needed compassionate band aid.

Ahead of its latest offering, we select some sure stand outs, from this season’s showcase.

Studio 404

The innovative brand was sorely missed from last season’s schedule, so attendees will be delighted to see Studio 404 return to 080 Barcelona Fashion for Autumn/Winter 24. The label’s handmade, limited edition knitwear garments are already adored by the likes of Dua Lipa and fashion’s favourite IT girl Julia Fox, propelling its reputation as one of Spain’s most treasured homegrown labels. Hailing from Valencia, previous collections have been inspired by the silver screen, from David Lynch’s Twin Peaks to Japanese cyberpunk media franchise Ghost in the Shell. This season, designer Anaïs Vauxcelles will incorporate her recently released jewellery collection alongside her designs.

Habey Club

Established in the slow fashion community, their main brand values are craftsmanship, sustainability and responsible production. Focusing on the reuse of fabrics, design duo David Salvador and Javier Zunzunegui solely work with recycled or 100% organic fibres to craft their pieces. Habey Club are sure to bring an injection of thoughtful creativity to the 080 Barcelona Fashion runway.

COMPTE SPAIN

Valencian designer Santi Mozas’ label COMPTE SPAIN is instantly recognisable thanks to its distinctive silhouettes paired with elaborate detailing, bows, frills and all. Toying with nostalgia, the design house explores the most intimate and sensual nooks of our favourite childhood stories. Ensuring its output is masterfully-crafted and as sustainable as possible, COMPTE SPAIN utilises local production methods, guaranteeing its garments are 100% handmade in Spain. Additionally, the brand avoids overproduction by solely producing pieces on a drop-by-drop basis.

DOMINNICO

Once again, creative Director Domingo Rodríguez Lázaro promises to bring an eclectic and overloaded collection to 080 Barcelona Fashion. This time, inspired by balletcore, the label reimagines some of its best-selling silhouettes through lace, denim, recycled leather, rivets and metallic pieces. Sure to bring along a few famous names, previous seasons saw TikToker-turned-viral-musician Aliyah’s Interlude and the internet’s best-dressed Spanish creative, Sita Abellán, take to the runway.
