Exclusive: Watch Rachel Chinouriri Head Back to BRIT School with Spotify

In a new short-film by Spotify’s RADAR, Rachel Chinouriri reflects on her time at BRIT school, reconnects with past teachers and meets current students in light of her two BRIT award nominations

In a heartfelt new short film with Spotify RADAR, Rachel Chinouriri takes us inside a day at The BRIT School, where she connects with current Musical Theatre students over a Q&A session, performs an exclusive acoustic set, and shares a frank, honest insight into her music journey. From discussing her BRIT Award nominations to navigating the challenges of being a Black woman in the Indie music scene, Chinouriri opens the door to her world, offering fans a rare and personal look at her formidable rise and of course the challenges and triumphs that have come with it.

“Meeting with my manager, he said you might fall into the issue of being ‘mis-genred’. It was frustrating and heartbreaking,” Chinouriri shares during the film. “I actually started realising that I was being seen and stereotyped for being a Black person versus people actually listening to what I’m doing. So I made a post about being Black in Indie music, and it went massively viral. I now feel like I have a duty to speak out about this more to make sure that more Black and POC voices are heard and allowed in these spaces.”

The film marks the launch of Spotify RADAR’s new programme that seeks to connect directly with Gen Z students on university and school campuses. Since 2020, Spotify’s RADAR has been the global home for what’s next in sound, lifting up rising artists, burgeoning songwriters, and promising podcasters as they develop and expand their global reach on the path to superstardom. To best represent the wide breadth of RADAR and strengthen its commitment to bringing emerging talent to the forefront, Spotify invites music lovers to witness the future of music, songwriting, and podcasting by bringing them into the creator’s world.
