Our Favourite Concerts, Live Streams and Classes from Instagram This Week

As the reality of quarantined life settles in, many celebrities have taken to their social media to provide fans with impromptu concerts, guitar lessons and DJ set live streams.

Christine & The Queens covers The Weeknd

Our favourite queer icon Chris has popped up in several places on the internet over the weekend, including Charli XCX’s live stream. On Monday, the French singer-songwriter surprised fans with a cover of The Weeknd’s latest single ‘Blinded By The Light’ in this breathtaking performance from home.

James Blake streams live

British soul singer James Blake announced he would be treating fans to a two-hour live stream concert this week and has now uploaded the stream to his Instagram. Taking requests from fans live, this low-key performance gave us stripped-back renditions of some of Blake’s older and lesser-known tracks along with covers of Billie Eilish and Frank Ocean.

Laura Marling teaches guitar

Meanwhile, Laura Marling has been inspiring her fans to learn the guitar via her Isolation Guitar Tutorials that began this week. Each day, Every Thursday and Sunday, she has been teaching a variety of skills from how to tune your guitar to learning the chords to her own songs. Whether you’re intending to learn or not, listening to Laura’s angelic voice is always a pleasant pass time.

Amyl & The Sniffers cover Peaches

The BRICKS cover stars have been self-isolating together from their home in Melbourne. This week they released an incredible cover of fellow Aussie-musicians Peaches’ iconic track ‘Fuck The Pain Away’, and we’ve been watching on repeat all week. Seriously.

Luna Li shares her quarantine jams

Our top pick for discovery this week (thanks, Instagram Explore page!) is multi-instrumentalist Luna Li who has released a series of quarantine jams, creating the perfect low-fi bedroom vibes.

Charli XCX DJs on Grindr

I think it’s fair to say that Charli XCX has been doing the most for her fans during quarantine – going live with a host of celebrity friends, teaching art classes and becoming your new gym buddy. But our favourite thus far has been her live DJ set from Grindr’s Instagram hosted last night (personal highlight: opening her stream to a coronavirus-parody cover of Girls Night In. Genius!)

Tune in at 6:00pm UK time/ 10am LA time on @youtube @youtubemusic this Sunday where I’m gonna go solo and emotional for your donations. Subscribe to my channel : https://www.youtube.com/user/TheJapaneseHouse and a link will be provided when it’s ready to #golive All donations will go to @lgbtiqoutside . The Outside Project is an LGBTIQ+ community organisation that runs a shelter and community centre in central London. The service has been run by activists, homelessness proffesionals and the ex-homeless community since 2017 and has provided a safe place for the community ever since. They are a grassroots organisation who understand that our community is much more likely to be effected by homelessness and campaign to change this. During the Covid-19 crisis the project is having to completely restructure in order to protect its guests and the wider queer community. The community centre has now moved online, and support workers are runnings socials and 1:1 sessions to ensure those who are struggling in isolation do not have to on their own. The shelter is still operating, and always will. For our guests the need for isolation means the need for more space which means the need for more cash for the protect. If you are struggling with housing during this crisis you can make a referral to Stonewall Housing https://stonewallhousing.org/services/referral-form/ who will be able to assist you further. #stayhome @lgbtiqoutside @harry_gay__
