For AW24, Georgian designer David Koma showcased a strong collection of decadent eveningwear. Inspired by dance, Koma looked to the late German neo-expressionist dance pioneer Pina Bausch and the contemporary Spanish action artist Candela Capitan for his styling cues.
Koma utilised Bausch’s adaptation of real-world dress codes into dance attire and Capitan’s tech-centric approach to movement to create effortlessly draped tops and ballet-shaped bustiers. Koma’s fascination with feathers returned as sashes and scarves in shades of icy blue and crimson, a homage to his penchant for partywear. The designer’s fabrications also told a story – chiffons, satins and velvets exuded the stiff elegance of New York’s sophisticated Swans, while soft tulles and body-hugging jerseys highlighted the collection’s movement.
