We’ve launched our new issue, #14 The Resilience Issue

We’re back with our latest print issue, now available to pre-order from the BRICKS online store

BRICKS #14 The Resilience Issue explores what it means to be resilient – the ability to successfully adapt to adversity, the capacity to withstand difficulties, and the tenacity to bounce back from hardship. These acts of courage are worthy of celebration, but what happens when the pressure to persevere gets too much? What are the repercussions when resilience is normalised, or even glorified? How do we honour this strength while acknowledging its sacrifices? Our latest issue investigates the importance of resilience and also the burden of it, the insecurities it breeds, the fatigue it encourages, and the tokenism it can perpetuate.

On the cover, we meet the illustrious Anna Delvey – the ultimate enigmatic NYC socialite who understands reinvention and resilience better than most. Here, Delvey discusses her audacious rise and fall – from selecting her courtroom fits to launching new business ventures – with trusted friend and The Outlaw Agency co-founder Kelly Cutrone for this hilariously candid conversation.

Also on the cover, trailblazing musician Cat Burns, who has been developing renewed openness in her musical career following her diagnoses with autism and ADHD, shares her focus providing a voice for Black, queer, neurodivergent women in music.

@ideservecouture meme mastermind Hanan Besovic meets @BORINGNOTCOM, the fashion industry’s latest anonymous fashion critic. Satirising Instagram critic account @STYLENOTCOM with eye-stinging neon green tiles, the snarky sartorial pundit has garnered a reliable reputation for breaking industry news early, with alarming accuracy.

For our final cover, BRICKS enlisted its community to submit their work to be spotlighted in the latest issue. In this editorial, photographer Andrea Brandt & stylist Luke Tubbs’s surreal dreamscape evokes The Sandman, a traditional character in Scandinavian folklore who encourages and inspires beautiful dreams.

Inside the issue, we spotlight members of the BRICKS community who embody resilience for our annual Portraits series – including Scottish mixed media artist Trackie Mcleod, model and disabilities advocate Georgia Stannard, and Look Deeper zine founder Ellie Darby-Prangnell. BRICKS contributing editor Hannah Bertolino investigates the of the state of touring today and its mental cost on musicians, Hannah Kitty Brown meets the emerging designers showcasing their resilience by responding creatively to societal crises, and Maxine Williams speaks with actress and friend Deba Hekmat and director Sasha Nathwani about their debut feature film, Last Swim, following a British-Iranian teenager as she leads her friends on an eventful journey across London on A-Level results day. Elsewhere, Devinder Bains explores the urgency for direct action, Seren Metcalfe discusses the reality for artists juggling visibility and impact with financial precarity, and Liv West recounts her journey to the other side of depression.

The issue is now available for pre-order directly from the BRICKS online store, and customers will receive an email when their orders ships in April. Unfortunately, due to changes in UK regulations, we’re no longer able to sell BRICKS from our online store in the EU or Northern Ireland. Our EU and NI-based readers can purchase their copy directly from our distributor Antenne Books, or you can find a full list of our internationally-based stockists on Instagram.

Additionally, for those based in London who want to save on postage fees and meet the BRICKS team IRL, for the second year, we’re hosting Open Days at the BRICKS office – there are still available slots on Thursday 1st and Tuesday 20th May. Pick up your copy of BRICKS magazine at our office and join us for a free session of networking, mentoring and chit chats with our team, where drinks and snacks will be provided. Your booking cost covers your copy, which you will receive during the session.
